LED LIGHT SAFETY POLES (or whatever they are called)

safety led light poles 2

We may not have actually seen any in person, but many of us have seen them in pictures and videos online. I am talking about LED light poles or whips as I have heard them called. There is no denying that after dark these things are highly visible and can be rather beautiful as well. Some are fiber optic with the light showing thru out the pole. Some are a bit more traditional with individual lights up and down the pole. Some have blinking/flashing light in various patterns.

I haven’t found them to be the easiest item to locate online. All too often when searching for them for bicycles the search results show those that are for motor vehicles with 12 volt systems. I read where one person used a 9 volt battery to power his. Here is a picture of it:

Many people make their own buying the various components online.

As I said, I have had a difficult time finding much of anything as far as sources to buy these LED pole lights. Here are a few although the Arizona Whips are pretty much designed for 12 volt vehicle use as are many of them I found. They can be adapted to a bike/trike, but one still needs a battery (power source) sufficient to operate them. LEDs are a pretty low current draw so I don’t know how long the 9 volt battery would last. Also the Arizona Whips are not cheap … $150 according to what I read.

  1. Also keep in mind that these L.E.D. Lights will do absolutely nothing in bright daylight or sunny conditions.

  2. I have one of these on my ride and it looks awesome at night, But as daytriker said it does nothing for you during the daylight hours…! I bought it before my ride even got here so I had time to modify mine so when my ride did get here and I installed it, it would not look stupid like some glass pole just sticking up in the air with out reason… So I attached a modified Florida Gators flag that I sewed by hand with some braided fishing line for it strength and durability to hold up over time, and it looks just great… Now as far as the construction of this LED light pole I went with the red, white, and blue, first off because I am patriotic to our great country… Now it comes with a attachment bracket which is a CNC milled piece of aluminum and which fits on most 2″ to 21/4 ” down tubes but because I have a quad I attached mine between my right back wheel and my flat rack for carrying things so the rack would still be useful and unobstructed I made my attachment right to the rear axial and it looks just fine right there..! Now in order to make your light work it comes with a 9v square battery pack kit which just hangs with a RCA plug to turn it on and off, pretty hardy but yet would still hang if I didn’t make a attachable battery box out of some old tooth brush case and attached it to the frame with some Velcro tape… So it all looks great during the day now as well as when it is lit up during the night hours…! I still have my big whip flag pole attached that came with my ride and I have three flags on, and they look equally as great on my ride still…! So I made use of it during the daylight hours with it honoring my gators flag having it fly great as I ride, and looks great a night or dusk lit and flickering our great red, white, and blue flag colors….!

  3. OH….! By the way, I’m making note of both of the other web sites (China, and Australia) because I will still want to buy 2 more for my trailer when under tow at night…! So thanks for the links as this will save me some money, because I think I paid like $275.00 or more with all included shipping and handling for only the 1 pole…
So thanks for those addy links…!
