CURRENT STATUS OF BIONX

I am not sure what is going on with Bionx since they went into “receivership” Feb. 27th. I know that their website was more less unavailable (non-functioning) following that news. There doesn’t seem to be much of anything available online to read about it. I was just checking out the BionX website and see that it is back up and functioning with no mention of their recent woes. If I hear anything more I will share it here.

update — One reader of this blog reports in a comment that he heard that BionX has been bought out from receivership and is indeed back in business. Sadly, the dealer nearest me has not heard anything out of BionX since all this started.. I have emailed BionX asking them what their current status is, but they haven’t emailed me back yet. It will be interesting to see if the new ownership does anything about the propietary structuring of BionX. I sure hope they make some needed changes.

  1. Steve, I am still out here in Scottsdale and have spoken with the BionX dealer here. He told me that that have been bought out of receivership and it’s business a usual for them. In fact, the folks here have been doing quite a good business with them. They are very interested in selling me an upgrade to my trike. And they seem very reassuring that things will be moving forward under the new owners. I can only hope it’s all true. Hope to see you on the Greenway in May.

  2. Thanks for the update Steve.. although I don’t care for BionX my self, I do however check out updates of the mechanical nature of things, and I am always looking out for the new, or restructured elements to see improvement or if they are moving towards a new format or upgraded the old with new results..
I hope your new system is fulfilling your expectations, and is what you have been looking for on a assistanse bases.. Best of luck………. Armadillo Zack

  3. My LBS says they now deal with OHM, an ebike mfgr, also in Vancouver. They use BIONX motors on their ebikes exclusively and also sell them as kits. It appears they may be IN THE PROCESS of buying BIONX but are tight lipped for noe.

  4. Hi Steve. Just curious in why you don’t care for Bionx and what other assist you like better.

  5. I have answered that already as I haqve written extensively about my experiences with BionX. It is a nice system, but way too expensive and it’s proprietary. I had problems with mine which BionX failed to remedy to my satisfaction even though they certainly had ample opportunity. I can’t necessarily recommend any e-bike motor conversion kit at this point in time. I am certainly no authoority on them however. I only have experience with three thus far and hope I never have to buy another one.
