GOD DAMN IT!
God damn it! That is something we hear people say all the time. Perhaps you have or do say it. Have you ever stopped to ponder over why people say this? Just for the record God’s last name is not Damn It. Certainly God is quite capable of damning something and has done so from time to time. I would ask you … do you really want God to damn something or someone? Do you realize what you are asking? Putting that aside I want to focus on why people say those words … God damn it. God has clearly warned us about not using His Name in vain . It is one of His commandments to us … Exodus 20:7 … “You shall not take the Name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave him unpunished who takes His Name in vain.”. People do that all the time in different ways. They obviously don’t realize the seriousness of this sober warning. So why do people do it? Well, they reject God in their lives. They reject the Holy Scriptures as His Word written to us. But it goes beyond that. They don’t use the name of Buddha or Mohammad. Those are false gods. No, they use the Name of the true God. It may be simply God or it maybe Jesus or Christ or Jesus Christ. I take offense when I hear someone use my Lord’s Name in vain. It saddens my heart and it angers me. They probably would not appreciate it if someone used their wife’s or mother’s name to curse. So why do people use the Lord’s Name in vain. It is really quite simple. Since they don’t revere the God Who created them and everything that exists they have no problem in doing this and the reason they do it is an attempt to exult themselves above the true God. They are trying to drag Him down off of His heavenly throne and exult themselves in His place to make themselves superior in a given situation. It is really quite sad. As God has declared He will not hold them guiltless. They will answer to Him for doing this. We will all be judged for not only the words that proceed from our mouths but for even our every thought and motive and action. God has warned us in His Word that it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God (Hebrews 10:31). Sin is a serious matter and our most serious problem. God loves each and every one of us but our sin separates us from Him. Our sin must be dealt with. We can not do anything to change this. We are born rebellious and sinful. It is our nature. And because of our sin we are hell bound … eternal separation from God. That is not what God wants. As I said, He loves us and doesn’t want any of us to perish. He wants all of us to repent and turn to Him with our sin problem. He alone has the answer we need. He took care of the sin problem for us knowing that we were helpless and could not do anything about it. He left heaven and came to earth taking on the form of a man like us thru a miraculous birth. He caused a virgin girl to become pregnant and give birth to a baby Who grew into a man on a mission. Not being born of a human father He had no sin nature as all of mankind has. He was 100% God while 100% man. He carried out the plan of salvation by living a perfect life and dying a horrible death in our place. He shed **innocent blood that we might be forgiven. Yes, God in His great love for you and I did all that He could to make a way (the only Way) for us where there was no way and no hope. The ball is in your court. What will you do with Jesus? Hopefully you won’t use His Name in vain, but call on Him while He may be found and you may be saved. You have no assurance of your next breath or heartbeat. If you die in your sins it is too late. Your fate will be sealed. You will have no more opportunity. Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart but respond to Him.
